Casa Rossa Ximenes

Museums and libraries | Castiglione della Pescaia
Situated near the historical centre of Castiglione della Pescaia, it was designed by Leonardo Ximenes in 1765 commissioned by Grand duke Pietro Leopoldo who undertook the first land reclamation works in the Maremma. The structure, supported on three arches at the time of construction, allowed the regular outflow of marsh water, contributing to the reclamation of the area.

Today, Casa Rossa Ximenes hosts the multimedia museum dedicated to the Diaccia Botrona reserve. It is open to the public from Wednesday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 7 pm. The cost of the full ticket is €3, the reduced ticket for under 18s, over 65s and university students up to 25 years of age is €1.50, while admission is free for children under age 6, people with disabilities, journalists, tour guides and environmental guides, and those resident in the Municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia.
