Castello di Cugnano

Towers and castles | Monterotondo Marittimo
This archaeological site is of great historical importance as it dates to Etruscan times, but it was also inhabited in Roman and Medieval times. In the latter period, the castle had the purpose of presiding over and exploiting the metalliferous resources of the area before being abandoned as the economic interest connected with the extraction of copper and silver in the area began to fall. Visitors to the site will appreciate the remains of its imposing structure, which bear witness to the historical importance it has held over the centuries.
