The castle is one of the most important examples of Gothic architecture in Northern Maremma. The fortress stands 280 metres above the town and is formed by two pre-existing buildings: to the North, the Keep with the base of the scarp wall and numerous windows with a large opening and the remains of a polygonal tower. Inside, the palazzo features traces of beams and wooden floors; to the south, remains of a quadrangular tower, equipped with embrasures, remains of masonry vaults and well-worked corbels.
