The nature reserve is a large green space of more than 1000 hectares and one of the most important marshland areas of Italy. The importance of this area lies in the rare ecosystem which populates it; the Reserve hosts an immense variety of living microorganisms, both plant and animal, which contribute to the development of the biodiversity of the area. It is possible to find close to 200 species of birds which follow each other year-round, such as marsh harrier, hen harrier, white falcon, osprey, kite, buzzard, red heron and Roller and many more. There are also countess lake plants, such as straw, reeds and different species of orchids.
