"THE RETURN OF THE COMMANDER: Etruscan Princes in the Duce's Tomb of Vetulonia."

From 11/08/2024 to 02/02/2025
Starting from Sunday, August 11, the MuVet (Museum of Vetulonia) will host the 2024 event exhibition titled "THE RETURN OF THE COMMANDER: Etruscan Princes in the Duce's Tomb of Vetulonia."
Twenty years after the first exhibition titled "I am of Rachu Kakanas: The Etruscan Tomb of the Duce of Vetulonia" and ten years after the rediscovery, within the dense Mediterranean vegetation, of the tomb that, under the appearance of a beautiful "Circle of White Stones," contained the burials of prominent members of a noble family that played a significant role in Vetulonian society in the first half of the 7th century B.C., the 2024 Event Exhibition "THE RETURN OF THE COMMANDER" brings Rachu Kakanas and his splendid funerary collection back home.
This project marks a fundamental milestone in the privileged collaborative relationship with the MAF (National Archaeological Museum of Florence), the museum that has both loaned and safeguarded the primary "treasures" recovered from the Vetulonia site since the late 19th century. At the same time, it represents a new turning point in MuVet's growth, refocusing its exhibitions on the Vetulonian archaeological heritage. This exhibition emphasizes the profound and indissoluble connection between the objects that make up this heritage and their unique context. With the return of this extraordinary collection to its original territory, both the items and their context become exceptionally accessible to the wide audience of visitors, both on-site and interconnected.
